Indigenous Access to Water

This is a recording from the Indigenous Water Planning Workshop held in Adelaide in February 2009 hosted by the National Water Commission.

The powerpoint slides can be viewed along with the audio recording here:

The presentation describes the intentions of the National Water Initiative for water planning to involve Indigenous people in water planning, and how well or otherwise the states are delivering these intentions. Like many areas of involving Indigenous people in water and natural resources management, success is patchy, and they are an interest group who are often left out of the decision making processes. The states of New South Wales and the Northern Territory seem to be doing the best in terms of involving Indigenous people in water planning, and in South Australia and Western Australia, there seems to be very little involvement at a state level.
