Should we be able to water our lawns

In response to Leighton and Kerry, I think we should be able to pay more for water if we want to water our lawns. If the price of water was higher, entrepreneurs would find ways of recycling, re-using and finding new water sources to meet the demand. For more discussion on this point, see:

  1. I agree, water is far to cheap, especially to waste, I have been reuseing my waste water for over 5 years, All wates water is directed to my lawns.

  2. Re: Watering lawns and the price of water. I think a mix of incentives to encourage responsible use of our resources is required rather than just pricing.

In a perfect world the community needs to understand the water equation and their own personal impact on finite resources and the catchment.

In the house / community garden or lawn situation there is the option of choosing more water efficient plant species, making use of recycled or water caught locally.

Peronally I am nervous about using pricing and the private sector to drive best practice resource management and am more comfortable with encouraging and rewarding informed communities and individuals to behave responsibly.
